ReplyDeleteIndeed, First-Class Cricket it is/was, when played upon The Village Green. Played for the enjoyment of the game. Good Sportsmanship on both sides. And splendid cucumber sandwiches (thinly-sliced) during "Tea".
In addition, one can always dream that one's team is thrashing The Aussies in an Ashes Test Match.
Much better than the modern game which is offered to the pubic, and which reminds me of the game of Rounders.
Indeed. The modern game has little to no strategy whatsoever. Pretty soon many cricket fans will have no idea what it means to have a "nightwatchman", a "follow-on", or why does a team have five slips?!?
