Saturday 10 September.

Royal Parade and re-enactment of The Coronation of King Henry III with Mediaeval Market and Festival Events.

Join us for an exciting celebration to commemorate 800 years since The Coronation of Henry III at Gloucester Cathedral. Follow the young Prince and members of the nobility through the City streets to the Cathedral, where the moment of Coronation and Enthronement will be re-enacted in a full ceremony in the Nave of Gloucester Cathedral.

12.30 p.m.   Start of The Parade from Blackfriars, Gloucester.

1.15 p.m.     Coronation and Enthronement Ceremony, led by Bishop Rachel Treweek.

1.45 p.m.     Planting of a Yew Tree in The Cathedral Grounds as part of a national initiative to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta.

2.00 p.m.      Mediaeval-themed entertainment on The Green and family Craft Activities inside The Cathedral. Browse a Mediaeval Market in The Cloisters, marvel at displays of Stone Masonry in The Garth, and soak up the atmosphere with a Jousting display.

An interesting and rewarding series of Lectures exploring King Henry III and his Coronation.

A display of items from The Cathedral Library and Archive will be set out on both evenings.

"Magna Carta 1216: Its Political and Social context". By Professor David Carpenter.

8.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m.
"A loving husband, father and brother: King Henry III and his women".
By Professor Louise Wilkinson.
