It has been announced that The Oratory-in-Formation, in Manchester, located at the Church of Saint Chad, Cheetham Hill Road, is now a Fully-Erected Independent Oratory.

The Community consists of Fr Raymond Matus, Fr Christopher Hilton, Fr Richard Bailey, Br Gerard Connett and Br Fabian Trevithick.

The Church, which dates from 1847, was designed by Matthew Ellison Hadfield and is a Grade II* Listed Building. The Roof is supported by Hammer Beams, which seem unnecessary for the modest width of The Nave.

Mass is offered in The Extraordinary Form every Sunday at 4.45 p.m. We wish The Manchester Oratory every success.

  1. A beautiful classic “Gothic Revival” (the Goths must be pleased with their legacy) church, soaring up to heaven in architecture and interior design.

But a bit of a drive for Lord Zephyrinus, even though ably conducted by Perkins with Jeeves assisting, in the Charabanc (est. drive 253 mi., 4 1/2 hours from Chislehurst). Perhaps a sally forth during Christmas season, and afterwards the expedition would deviate to the Scottish Highlands for trout fishing and making the rounds of the distilleries for Scotch whiskey tasting (given the brisk cold season of course). -Comment by Dante P.

    1. A most welcome Comment from Our Liturgical Archictectural Correspondent, Dante P, for which we are most grateful.

Zephyrinus is attracted by the “Route Plan and Activities Proposed” by Dante P. This is worth much thought and dove-tails, perfectly, with the upcoming Christmas Invitation to The Scottish Highlands.

Those two reprobates, Perkins and Jeeves, having received permission to accompany Zephyrinus “Oooop North”, are already being measured-up for “authentic Scottish Tartans”, although their Scottish ancestory is severely restricted to a six-month “Stretch” for both in Barlinnie Prison.

A visit to Manchester Oratory seems an admirable idea. Thank you, Dante P.

Let us all hope that Perkins's and Jeeves's “chums”, Moriarty and Colonel Sebastian Moran, do not make an appearance up in The Highlands. The Local Constabulary are aware of “suspicious events taking place” and, if Perkins and Jeeves appear on the scene, there will be lots of opportunities for Overtime for the Local Protectors of the Populace.
