The Solemn Celebration of this Feast is, in some places, observed on the following Sunday.

After The Dogma of The Holy Trinity, The Holy Ghost reminds us of The Dogma of The Incarnation of Our Lord, in celebrating with The Church the greatest of all Sacraments, summing up the whole Life of The Redeemer, giving Infinite Glory to God and applying The Fruits of The Redemption at all times to ourselves (Collect).

It was on The Cross that Our Lord redeemed us, and The Holy Eucharist, instituted on the night before Our Lord's Passion, remains its Memorial (Collect). The Altar is the extension of Calvary ["The Celebration of The Mass has the same value as The Death of Jesus Christ on The Cross", Saint John Chrysostom.]; The Mass "shows The Death of The Lord" (Epistle).

Jesus is there in the State of a Victim, for the words of the Double Consecration mean only that the Bread is changed into The Body of Christ and the Wine into His Blood. On account of this double action with different effects, which constitutes The Sacrifice of The Mass, we are entitled to speak of Our Lord's Presence, under the appearance of Bread, as that of The Body of Christ, although, since He can die no more, the whole Christ is there contained; similarly, we may speak of the Presence under the appearance of Wine as that of His Blood, although He is contained there whole and entire.

of Traditional Catholicism")

Through His Priests, Our Lord Himself, the principal Priest of The Mass, offers in an unbloody manner His Body and Blood, Which were really separated on The Cross, but, on the Altar only in a representative or Sacramental sense, the matter and words used and the effect produced being different in the two Consecrations.

Besides, The Eucharist was instituted under the form of food (Alleluia), that we may be united with The Victim of Calvary, so that The Sacred Host becomes the "wheat" which feeds our Souls (Introit).

Moreover, Christ, as The Son of God, receives The Eternal Life of The Father; in the same way, Christians share in that Eternal Life by uniting themselves to Christ, through The Sacrament, which is the symbol of unity (Secret), and this possession of The Divine Life, already realised on Earth through The Eucharist, is the pledge and the beginning of that in which we shall fully rejoice in Heaven (Postcommunion). As The Council of Trent puts it: "That same Heavenly Bread that we eat now, under the Sacred Veils, we shall feed upon in Heaven without Veil."

We should regard The Mass as The Centre of all Eucharistic Worship, seeing in Holy Communion the means instituted by Our Lord to enable us to share more fully in this Divine Sacrifice. In this way, our Devotion to Our Lord's Body and Blood will effectively obtain for us The Fruits of His Redemption (Collect).

Concerning The Procession, which regularly should follow The Mass, we remember how the Israelites revered The Ark of The Covenant, which was the Presence of God among them. When they carried on their victorious marches, the Ark went before, borne by the Levites in the midst of a cloud of incense, accompanied by the sound of musical instruments and of the songs and shouts of the multitude.

We Christians have a treasure far more precious, for, in The Eucharist, we possess God Himself. Let us feel a holy pride in forming His Escort and extolling His Triumphs, while He is in our midst.

Every Parish Priest celebrates Mass for the people of his Parish.

THE PROCESSION.

Regularly, The Sacred Host, carried in The Procession, has been Consecrated in The Mass and exposed in The Monstrance immediately after The Communion of the Priest.

Sometimes, however, The Procession is a separate function in the afternoon.

When the Priest leaves the Altar, the Choristers intone the Vesper Hymn Pange Lingua. If time allows, other Eucharistic Hymns are also sung, to be found among The Benediction Hymns, e.g: Sacris Solemniis and Verbum Supernum. Also the Hymns for The Ascension, Salutis Humanae, the Canticles Benedictus or Magnificat. On the return of The Procession, The Te Deum is usually sung.

When the Celebrant is arrived at the Altar, the Choristers intone the Tantum Ergo and Benediction is given.

The following Text is from Wikipedia - the free encyclopaedia.

Pope Urban I (Latin: Urbanus I) was Bishop of Rome, or Pope, from 222 A.D. to 23 May 230 A.D. He was born in Rome and succeeded Pope Callixtus I, who had been Martyred.

Much of Urban's life is shrouded in mystery, leading to many myths and misconceptions. Despite the lack of sources, he is the first Pope whose Reign can be definitely dated. Two prominent sources do exist for Urban's Pontificate: Eusebius' History of The Early Church and also an inscription, in the Coemeterium Callisti, which names the Pope.

Urban ascended to The Chair of Saint Peter in the year of The Roman Emperor Elagabalus' assassination and served during the Reign of Alexander Severus. It is believed that Urban's Pontificate was during a peaceful time for Christians in The Empire, as Severus did not promote the persecution of Christianity.

Urban is a Canonised Saint of The Roman Catholic Church and The Eastern Orthodox Church.

Born at Soana, Tuscany, Italy, Hildebrand became a Monk in the famous Benedictine Monastery of Cluny, on which, at the time, depended two thousand Monasteries. He soon became Prior, and was later Elected Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Paul-Without-the-Walls, Rome, and made a Cardinal of The Roman Church.

At the death of Pope Alexander II, in 1073, he was Elected Pope and took the name of Gregory VII. Thus, entrusted with the government of The House of God (Gospel, Communion), he participated in the full Priesthood of Jesus (Introit, Epistle).

At a time when the Bishops, mostly Simoniacal, were the dependents of Lay Princes, he strove with such constancy to defend the liberty of The Church (Collect) that, as we are assured, no Pontiff, since the time of The Apostles, undertook more labours for her (The Church) or fought more courageously for her independence.

While he was saying Mass, a Dove was seen to come down on him: The Holy Ghost thereby bore witness of the Supernatural views that guided him in the government of The Church. Forced to leave Rome, he died at Salerno in 1085, saying those words, the first of which are from Psalm XLIV: "I have loved justice and hated iniquity: That is why I die in exile."

Following the example of Saint Gregory, let us overcome with courage all adversities (Collect).

What A Win-Double !!!

What a Win-Double !!!

Fifty years ago, today, David Steel MP [above, Right] decided to introduce a Bill to legalise ABORTION in Britain.

Paul Lennon, Society For The Protection Of Unborn Children's Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs, has reminded the Society, this morning: "It is fifty years ago, today, that David Steel made the fateful decision to sponsor a Bill to make ABORTION more easily available."

In 2015, under Steel's tragic legislation, 509 babies were killed EVERY SINGLE DAY in England and Wales alone.

The Internet has brought a Golden Age of
evangelical opportunity. Atheists share the same soapbox
– but that should not deter us.

. . . That the Catholic Church, officially and (often much more successfully) unofficially, is so active Online, is perfectly natural. Pope Francis joining Instagram, like Benedict XVI joining Twitter, might prompt a collective raised-eye emoji from journalists.
But they might be reminded that the Vatican itself was an Internet pioneer: Its Web-Site launched in 1995, the same year as CNN’s, and two years before the BBC’s. (Incidentally, those who gripe at how antiquated the Vatican’s Web-Site feels – “so Web 1.0” – are shamelessly flaunting their age. They are clearly much too young to remember GeoCities sites with autoplaying midi soundtracks and a trail of stars following the cursor.) . . .

Empire Weekend And Flag Weekend. Beamish World-Famous Open-Air Museum, Durham. Saturday, 21 May, And Sunday, 22 May 2016.

Join us to celebrate Empire and Flag Weekend during this Spring weekend.

Empire Day was first celebrated in 1902, following the end of The Boer War. Traditionally, it was held on 24 May, the birthday of Queen Victoria  –  it was intended to encourage people, especially children, to be aware of their duties as citizens of The British Empire.

In 2016, we also plan to tell the story of Flag Day, as part of our First World War Commemorations. Flag Days were held by organisations to raise money for causes, including Soldiers on The Front Line, Prisoners-of-War, and support for Disabled Servicemen. Whilst we will not be raising money for charity, we will be commemorating and celebrating the important contribution that young people made towards fundraising during The First World War.

We’ll have Brass Band performances, traditional displays, craft activities and a chance to learn more about The Empire and Flag Days, with the highlight of the day being The Parade at 2.30 p.m., from The Town to The Pit Village, we invite you to line the streets and wave your Flags, proudly !

The Borneo Band, from Durham Army Cadet Force, and Durham/Northumberland Wing ATC Band, will perform on both days, and buildings along the cobbled streets will be decked with Union Jacks and Red, White and Blue bunting. The Co-op shops will have colourful displays of goods from ‘The Colonies’ – teas from Ceylon and India, sugar cane and bananas from Jamaica, and produce from New Zealand and Australia.

At this Season of the Church's Liturgical Year, when Jesus, by His Triumph, has realised His name of Saviour, The Liturgical Cycle Celebrates The Feast of Saint Bernardine, who was consumed "by the very ardent love of The Divine Name (Jesus)" (Collect).

Born of a noble family of Siena, Italy, Saint Bernardine renounced all his possessions. He kept his Chastity intact, in spite of the dangers to which his handsome features exposed him. The Church applies to him the words of Holy Scripture: "He had it in his power to violate The Commandment of God, and he did not violate it" (Epistle).

"Not placing his hope in money and treasures" (ibid),  he left all, to follow Christ (Gospel), and entered The Order of Saint Francis, one of whose glories he is. Travelling through towns and villages, everywhere he Preached the name of Jesus (Collect) and thereby wrought many Miracles.

Saint Peter Celestine [Editor: See yesterday's Feast] appeared to him, to warn him of his approaching end, which came on Ascension Eve, 1444.

Let us ask God to grant us, through the intercession and merits of Saint Bernardine, a great love for the name of Jesus and, thereby, to kindle in us the flame of Divine Charity (Collect).

Mass: Os justi.
