He was noted by his contemporaries for his forceful Preaching and expert knowledge of Scripture, he was the second-most-quickly Canonised Saint, after Peter of Verona. He was proclaimed a Doctor of The Church on 16 January 1946. He is also the Patron Saint of finding things or lost people.
Fantastic Saint - one of the first I had devotion to, from early childhood, as a helper in finding lost things. I have encouraged invoking him for this among many people over the years, including non-Catholics, and even non-Christians - he invariable seems to come to our assistance (hopefully he may have encouraged their souls in the right direction).
ReplyDeleteI have also learnt may other things about St. Anthony: have you come across St. Anthony's Brief? This was given to a soul tormented by suicidal thoughts as protection against these and the diabolical powers which would encourage action upon them - here is a link to a short article on the Brief http://www.roman-catholic-saints.com/saint-anthonys-brief.html

ReplyDeleteI agree, Matthaeus. Saint Anthony of Padua is my "Go To" Saint whenever I have lost something of importance.
ReplyDeleteAs it says in the advert: "He does exactly what it says on the tin".
[For non-UK Readers, that means he does exactly what you have asked for. It's a television advert slogan.]
