A photograph showing The Whitsun Holiday traffic returning from
The South-East Coast of England, taken in May 1950 by John Topham
for The Daily Herald.
The photograph was taken at the Rochester By-Pass in Kent.
This was the first Coupon-Free Petrol Holiday since 1939. Petrol Rationing was introduced
in 1939 by The Government, requiring people to exchange Coupons,
as well as money, for their fuel.
