Truly, as Zephyrinus knows, one of the most ancient churches in Rome, going at least back to the 430s. The phenomenal though incomplete tomb of Julius II by Michelangelo, with the incomparable statue of Moses, on the right side, dominates the church.
I did not know that a Catholic woman, Eudóxia, daughter of the Byzantine Empire Empress, wife of Valentinian III, who had traveled to Jerusalem, and was given the chains of Saint Peter by the Patriarch Juvenalis, in turn presented the relics to S.Leo the Great. Indeed a very historic church and pedigree!

Most grateful, Dante Peregrinus, for adding considerably to this particular Article.
