The late American historian Warren Carroll published a short work (1981, 166 pp’s) on the enormous opposed forces of 1914-1917, entitled “Red Banners, White Mantle,” political forces arranged on multiple fronts, such as Lenin and the Communists, the atheist New World Order leaders such as Clemenceau of France and Woodrow Wilson of the US, the psychotic and bizarre Kaiser Wilhelm II, Tsar Nicholas II (who also knew his country could not afford another devastating war after the catastrophic loss in 1905 of the Russo-Japanese war); and finally, almost alone and isolated, Blessed Charles (Karl Von Habsburg) of Austria.
In this short work, Carroll describes all these forces aligned against the survival of the Catholic kingdom of Austro- Hungaria, and Emperor Charles’ clear-sighted understanding that it was essential for the weakened kingdom of Austro-Hungaria not to be drawn into the certain-to-be devastating modern war conflict by the raving and belligerent megalomaniac Kaiser Wilhelm—-and how, despite all his efforts, he was tragically undermined by those diplomatic forces that coerced him into honoring the unfortunate mutual alliance with Germany he had inherited from prior Austrian-Hungarian leadership.
Despite the fact that it is a truly tragic story, and no one really won (an estimated 40 million civilian and military killed, another 20 or 30 million wounded, many severely so they later died with a decade: source, Encyclopedia Brittanica), of course, except those smugly liberal New World Order types who wanted to redesign Europe and eliminate all monarchies and Christian kingdoms: yet nonetheless the heroic leadership of Blessed Charles somewhat blunted the effects on his kingdom, the Catholic Church, and his people, and he remains a model, like St. Louis IX of France, of truly concerned benevolent leadership.
How we could use this type of leadership today. — Note by Dante P

A magnificent contribution from our Historical Correspondent, Dante P, for which we are truly grateful.
DeleteSeventy million fatalities and wounded: A marvellous outcome for those idiots who happily sent so many innocents to their deaths.
Blessed Karl von Hapsburg, Pray for us.
