A great historic photo, thank you Zephyrinus. This commentor tried to identify the British unit: because the ill-fated Operation Market Garden was completed only days prior to this photo, Sep. 17-27, 1944, involving Brit units 1st Airborne (Paratroop) Division “by air,” and the XXX Corp (which was the mechanized infantry “land” division). Perhaps someone else who can dig deeper into the British military archives can identify the unit. Also striking, is that after Operation Market Garden defeat, all the Allied units knew that Nazi Germany still had a great deal of fight left in them and the war would NOT be over by Christmas, 1944.
ReplyDeleteBut more importantly, this is the type of literally battle-tested Faith that formed that and the next generation and that saved Europe and the world for the next 50 years. We sorely miss them. -Comment by Dante P
