  1. Our parish did a fine little bulletin reminder (in the humble opinion of this commenter) about the historical development of apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes, Feb. 11th:

After the 18 apparitions to S. Bernadette, the last one in July of 1858: “… It was only 4 years later, in 1862, that the bishop
declared the faithful "justified in believing the reality of the
    apparition".

A basilica was built upon the rock of Massabielle by Monsignor
Dominque Peyramale, the Lourdes parish priest [who at first was convinced the apparitions were a hoax, but later became convinced by S. Bernadette’s steadfast unwavering faith.]

    In 1873 the great "national"
French pilgrimages were inaugurated. 3 years later, the
basilica was consecrated and the statue solemnly crowned.

In 1883 the foundation stone of another church was laid, as the
first was no longer large enough for the crowds of pious Faithful. It was built at the foot of the basilica and was consecrated in 1901 and called the Church of the Rosary.”

Zephyrinus and this humble correspondent have discussed st other times the disastrous Franco-Prussian War of 1871-1872, the tremendous loss of life, the destruction, and the end of the Catholic reign of Napoleon III, instigated (many historians say) by Otto Von Bismarck. Many saw Lourdes as a religious warning to the Catholic people of France. We might consider that warning for our time as well. -Comment by Dante P

    1. We are very grateful to Dante P's Parish for this exemplary historical update on the apparitions of Our Lady at Lourdes.

It educates the mind and embellishes the wonderful Feast due tomorrow.

The French people suffered so much, as the World suffers now. Let us continue to Pray to Our Lady to remain with us, and support us, as she did of course at Lourdes.
