And thou, child,
wilt be called the Prophet of The Most High;
for thou wilt go before the Lord to prepare His ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to His people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
through the tender mercy of our God,
when the day shall dawn upon us from on high,
to give light to those who sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.
(Lk 1:76-79)

Another wonderful Zephyrinus vignette focused on this important feast: Dom Lefebvre OSB calls it “Summer Christmas,” since the Birth of the Baptist is 6 months in advance of Our Lord’s Nativity as the Angel tells Mary on March 25th (Luke 1:36-40:” And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:").
