And Wales In The Saint Andrew Daily Missal Of 1936.

(This Supplement contains the Masses Proper to the 

Dioceses of England and Wales, except some for those 

of Hexham and Newcastle, Brentwood, and Cardiff, which 

are awaiting approval in Rome. When approved, the 

Proper Calendar and Masses of these Dioceses will be added 

to those of the other Dioceses, and in future editions 

embodied in the English Supplement.)

In the Diocese of Salisbury.

Saint Osmund.

Bishop and Confessor.

Saint Osmund, Bishop of Sarum, or Salisbury, was a 

Norman by birth, and accompanied William the Conqueror 

on his expedition into England.

He was sometime Chancellor of the Realm, but, 

desirous of perfect detachment from Earthly honours, 

he embraced the Clerical state.

He built Old Sarum Cathedral, and 

to him is attributed the compilation of the Sarum Rite 

for the Mass and the Divine Office.

He died 2 December 1099, at Old Sarum, whence, 

on 17 July, many years later, his Relics were, together 

with the Episcopal See, Translated to Salisbury.

Saint Birinus.

Bishop and Confessor.

Saint Birinus was a Roman Priest sent to England by Pope Honorius I. He is Venerated as the Apostle of the West Saxons, whose King he Baptised.

He became Bishop of Dorchester, and Founded the 

Bishoprics of Exeter, Salisbury, and Wells. He died 650 A.D.
