Available on YouTube
How do you resurrect a Mediæval Castle on top of a
mountain — and why did Germany invest heavily in doing it ?
At an altitude of 750 meters between France and Germany stands an architectural masterpiece atop a mountain: The Jewel of the Vosges. The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg.
Built in the 12th-Century, this fortress had numerous owners, was demolished and rebuilt several times, and became a strategic target in the heart of Alsace.
How did the prestigious German dynasties successfully
dig into the mountain to erect this genuine bastion ?
Why did Germany undertake a massive reconstruction
project in the beginning of the 20th-Century ?
The story of Haut-Koenigsbourg is tied to the genius
of architect Bodo Ebhart, who in 1901 decided to give
new life to this symbol of modernity and power on behalf
of Emperor Wilhelm II of Prussia.
Thanks to 3D computer graphics, discover the
modern technologies - including the electric cranes,
the locomotive that was hauled atop a mountain,
and the mobile, pivoting basket installed on the
construction site - that allowed the transformation of
a ruin into a legendary Castle in the span of seven years.
