“Barber's Adagio” is a reference to Samuel Barber’s famous and emotional classical music piece, “Adagio for Strings”.
Originally the second movement of his 1936 String Quartet, Op. 11, Barber arranged it for string orchestra at the request of conductor Arturo Toscanini, who premiered it in 1938.
The piece is known for its profound sadness and has been frequently used in films and at funerals to signify mourning.
